Grapes for these wines are sourced from the premium growing region of the Limestone Coast. This wine is produced, blended and bottled into a fresh, fruit driven style which is perfect for everyday drinking or more salubrious occasions.Sourced from 13 year-old-vines in Southern Coonawarra, the grapes for our 2019 Lost Weekend Chardonnay were picked from the 8th to the 12th of March. Following harvest, the fruit was pressed off skins and the pressings were kept separate and fermented cool for 35 days. The wine was then racked off gross lees to keep the style clean and crisp before being matured in stainless steel for 5 months prior to bottling. Lost Weekend is a fresh and vibrant style of Chardonnay which will reward short to medium term cellaring. Best shared with a large group of friends over a big haul of freshly caught seafood!

This wine is a beautiful deep and vibrant red colour, with purple hues on the rim. On the nose, it shows elegant ripe red plum and cherry notes. The palate is very well structured, with soft tannins and a delicate, fruity finish.Suitable for vegetariansSuitable for vegansMolino Loco is made by the Castaño family in Yecla and takes its name from the windmill ('molino') that sits on the edge of the vineyards where they produce their fruit. In contrast to other windmills, which turn in windy conditions, this particular windmill is "loco", the Spanish for crazy, as it turns only on calm, still days. VINEYARDS The vineyards are located at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. They are dry-farmed and the clay soil is poor, meaning that the roots of the vines grow deep into the earth in their search for minerals and nutrients. This helps to ensure healthy, ripe, full of flavour grapes. The Monastrell vineyards are over 18 years old, while the Syrah vines are slightly younger, averaging around 15 years. VINIFICATION The grapes were gently crushed before being fermented and macerated on their skins for 10 days at a controlled temperature of 24-26ºC in stainless-steel tanks. After fermentation the wine was aged very briefly in oak to round out the tannins. The delicate grape processing preserved the natural fruit purity and freshness that is so typical of the Molino Loco style.

Quality is determined by the grape varieties, by the age of the vines, their method of training and the density of planting. All these factors are officially converted into points, the sum of which determines the final classification of the property. Here, this sum exceeds 1200 points, ensuring it belongs to a select group of "Class A" properties. Summer was hot in 2004 followed by a wet September but finally more sun pushed up sugar levels before harvest. After harvest, old lagares (open granite tanks about 75cm high) are still used to make the best Ports with traditional foot treading of the grapes without any mechanical crushing. This Port was aged for a couple of years in wood and several years in bottle before release. It has the potential to age for around 25 years or more.
