Alvada 5 Year Old Madeira Blandys 50cl
Lovely golden-chestnut colour with a fine golden rim. Nose: characteristic and classic Madeira bouquet of dried fruits, toffee and hints of oak and spices. Palate: sweet, very rich, smooth and full-bodied, balanced by a very fine acidity. A long aftertaste with notes of honey and spicy oak.Blandys Alvada is fined and does not require decanting. It is a fine accompaniment to dessert dishes, especially fruit, cakes, rich chocolate puddings and cheeses. It has been bottled when ready for drinking and will keep for several months after opening. Blandys Alvada underwent fermentation off the skins with natural yeast at temperatures between 18°C - 21°C in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After approximately 48 hours, fortification with grape brandy takes place, arresting fermentation at the desired degree of sweetness.Blandy's Alvada was aged for 5 years in American oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' system. This comprises of the gentle heating of the wine in the lofts of the lodges in Funchal. Over the years the wine is transferred from the top floors to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine underwent racking and fining before the blend was assembled and bottled.

The ageing was done in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, whereby the wine is gradually transferred from the higher lodges’ attics, where the natural warmth of the sun contributes to the concentration of the wines, and temperatures are higher, to the middle floors, where temperatures are milder, and eventually, to the ground floor where temperatures are cooler. During this ageing, the wine underwent regular racking, and before finally being bottled, all wines are fined. All through the ageing process, the primary fruit flavours of the wine are gently transformed into tertiary dried fruit notes that produce Madeira unique hallmark bouquet.

Herdare do Peso Sossego Alentejo Tinto Portugal
This wine is bright ruby red in colour. On the nose, generous aromas of strawberries and red cherries stand out, with spicy complexity coming from the oak ageing. It is vibrant and supple on the palate with elegant tannins, delicately balanced acidity and a lovely fresh finish.The Guedes family had always rated the quality of the Herdade do Peso grapes – they had been using them in their Vinha do Monte wines since the early 1990s – and jumped at the opportunity to purchase the estate in 1996. Situated in the south of the Alentejo, in the sub-region of Vidígueira, the Herdade do Peso estate covers a total of 457 hectares, 160 hectares of which are currently planted with vines. Winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida makes expressive and generous wines that reflect the warmer climate of the Alentejo. VINEYARDS Despite its southerly location, Vidígueira is one of the cooler Alentejo sub-regions and benefits from cool Atlantic air funnelled inland from the coast by a gap in the surrounding mountains. Limestone soils help to control vine vigour and lend elegance to the wines. All of the Herdade do Peso vineyards are sustainably farmed and an on-site dam provides much-needed water to irrigate the vineyards during the Alentejo summers. VINIFICATION Following full destemming and gentle crushing, maceration and fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26ºC over a period of around eight days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged in second, third and fourth fill French oak barrels for around six months. It underwent a light fining and filtration before bottling.
