The Nederberg 56 Hunderd Chenin Blanc is a generous and rewarding wine that boasts a vibrant tropical fruit profile. In the glass the wine shows a pale straw colour that is accentuated by an enchanting green tint. The bouquet is immediately forthcoming with abundant aromas of guava, apricot and white peach that greet the nose. A well-balanced palate continues with the aromatic profile of the nose, allowing ripe fruit flavours to reach an elevated expression of character on the mid palate before ending of with a pleasant finish.

Goes well with Chinese cuisine, pork and mild curries.

Russet colour with brilliant crimson highlights and a fragrant, ripe-fruit bouquet. Its smooth, silky texture and subtle oak nuances are balanced by a fresh acidity and tannic ‘grip’ that culminate in a long, elegant finish.

During the January following each vintage, Fonseca sets aside a reserve of very concentrated, powerful vintage quality red ports, selected primarily from the firm’s own quintas and judged according to their ageing potential. These are placed in cask and cellared. Tawny ports of age are blended across several vintages to maintain quality and continuity of style, and thus show an “apparent”, or average, age on the label rather than a vintage date. As tawny ports age, they grow lighter in colour, as they throw their deposit in the cask rather than in the bottle. Moreover, Fonseca cellars its aged tawnies in the Douro rather than in Vila Nova de Gaia; the considerable difference in heat and humidity between these two areas lends Fonseca’s tawny ports of age a very distinctive “baked” richness reminiscent of butterscotch.

The palate is full bodied and round, with a smooth velvety texture and mouth filling tannins. The juicy black fruit flavours of cherry and blackcurrant linger into the rich luscious finish.

 Deep, inky purple core with a bricking red rim. Rich, luscious and highly perfumed nose. Notes of blackberry, wild plum, logan berry, liquorice and a wonderful tension. Cloudberries give that added layer of soft, plump fruit, a mix of raspberry and redcurrant, with a hint of floral sweetness. On the palate, spice, brambles, assam tea with its traces of dark chocolate, cocoa and an alluring herbaceous hint. Good grip, concentration of dark woodland fruit, silky tannins and a fresh bright finish, with incredible length. 100% estate grown grapes from the Dealul Uberland vineyard. The altitude here is around 250 m, with soil rich in iron oxide and loess on fractured limestone bedrock.

25% of the grapes were transfered directly into 1000 Kg bins without being destemmed then sealed and put through a carbonic macceration fermentation for 10 days in order to produce the strawberry fruit part of the blend. The remaining 75%was destemmed lightly crushed and then macerated and fermented normally at 25°C in stainless steel automated fermenters. Both wines were then seperately pressed and the noncarbonic maceration wine was lightly oaked for 2 months before blending.

A fresh dry wine with racy passion fruit, tangerine and gooseberry flavours are graceful and elegant. with a lovely, alive mouth feel and a medium body. A zingy acidity adds to the elegance, and the flavours echo on the finish.

Back in 1988, three families decided to invest in a winery in Romania, starting with 650 hectares of slightly unloved vineyards and a rusty, once state-owned winery.

Yet Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, have turned the Cramele Recas Estate into the most successful winery in Romania. Recas are now recognised globally for their impressive scale and breadth of fascinating wines, including natural and orange wine from organic grapes. Despite the scale the emphasis is on making good wines that over-deliver, and as a result they’ve struck on a magic formula that has seen sales and demand boom. Vineyards are a combination of evolved plantings from 1447 and more recent planting, whilst the winery has seen significant investment and boasts state of the art facilities where innovation thrives. Recas are in every way a modern, dynamic winery, whose open minded approach and quality sets them apart … a winery you really can’t ignore.

Viticulture

Densely planted on hilly sites surrounding the winery at an altitude of 100m, the vines average 10 years old. Trained using the Guyot method. Drip irrigation is used if absolutely necessary though is by no means used every year.

Winemaking

100% handpicked estate grown fruit was harvested and taken quickly to the winery where it was gently destemmed and crushed. Cooled immediately to 8°C, the grapes were then pressed in a vacuum press under nitrogen to prevent oxidation, before being transferred to decantation tanks for 24 hours until completely clarified. Inoculated with selected yeast, the wine was fermented in stainless steel at very low temperatures between 8 and 10°C for 25 days, before clarification and bottling.

Parcel of grapes from Willowflat, Medway and Brackenfield Vineyards (Awatere Valley) were picked and fermented separately, allowing to enhance varietal character using carefully selected yeast strains. A long, cool fermentation took place to retain purity of flavours. The wine was then blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.

A deep crimson coloured wine with a nose that is intense with wild berry aromas with pepper and a hint of oak. The palate has strong ripe plum and berry flavours, that perfectly marry the subtle oak characters. The finish is long and velvety - what you expect from this full bodied wine.

With over 250ha of owned vineyards at his disposal, including some of the oldest vines in Rioja, Bodegas Manzanos is fortunately placed to put both the sub-region of Rioja Oriental and the name Manzanos firmly on the map as one of the most important areas and producers in Rioja. This range of wines is a modern take on the traditional landscape of Rioja, championing the native grape varieties, Tempranillo, Viura and Garnacha. The team is the youngest in the region, a talented a group of people with the sole purpose of making wines that people will enjoy.

Pale lemon in colour with fresh aromas of melon and citrus. Refreshing and crisp with flecks of pear and a light minerality on the palate which gives this wine a clean and bright texture and a long, juicy finish.

The wine is organic

Carta Roja Pura, an organic and no sulphur added wine, has been created with San Antonio Abad to meet the growing demand for sustainable wines that treat the environment with respect. The wine is made from organically grown grapes in the Villamalea region of Castilla La Mancha, where the high altitudes and warm, dry summers are idea for organic viticulture.

Aromatic and intense, lovely aromas of wild berries, blossom, nutmeg and hints of sandalwood. Fresh, fruity and well balanced with sensations of raspberries, vanilla and cinnamon.

The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and then spends 18 months in American and French oak barrels and a further 6 months in bottle before releasing.

Perfect accompaniment to chargrilled meat, cured ham and tapas.

Tempranillo 95%, Garnacha 5%. The vines in La Muga and Los Poyatos vineyards are mostly very old Tempranillo bush vines. Really healthy grapes were harvested and after slow fermentation in tank at controlled temperatures the wine was transferred to barrel for 6 months. A mixture of a very few of new American oak barrels, just to give the spice and toast aromas but mostly 2nd and 3rd year barrels of predominantly French oak were used to promote the evolution of the wine from a bright fruit bomb to something more mellow with a roundness and the unmistakeable stamp of something good, a “Semi-Crianza” of sorts.
