The grapes for False Bay Bush Vine Pinotage stem from a single vineyard of unirrigated bush vines in Stellenbosch. The attraction to this mature (planted in 1996), coastal, bush vine vineyard were the cooler temperatures and small, naturally balanced and concentrated berries. Made by Waterkloof's talented young Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard. Balanced grapes are hand harvested, fermented spontaneously with wild yeast and then raised in large wooden casks (or 'foudre' en Francais). The resulting wine therefore, is perhaps more 'Pino' than 'Tage'. No additions other than sulphur as a preservative. Grown, made and bottled in South Africa. Matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. Deep ruby-red colour. Aromas of red fruit with elegant vanilla and black chocolate nuances. Firm tannins and a long finish.

A fresh, clean unoaked wine made from selected grapes grown in Burgundy and the South of France. It has plenty of floral aromas, green apple and nectarine notes and good balance in the mouth between fruit and roundness leading to a long pleasant finish.

A dark, intense and robust red blend from the Douro. The palate delivers a crescendo of blackberry, ripe black cherries and plums layered over subtle spice and a bold, rich finish. This fresh, fruity style of Chenin Blanc shows prominent guava fruit aromas, green apple and punchy tropical fruits like pineapple with a nuance of jasmine. The palate is textured with a crisp and lingering finish.

Bodegas Juan Gil own over 500 hectares of vineyards, between 700 and 850 metres altitude, in the northwest of Jumilla: old bush vine Monastrell planted in chalky soils, and Shiraz grown in sandy soils on younger, trellised vines. Vinification is carried out at the winery in the heart of the Juan Gil vineyard area. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, temperature controlled, and the juice maintains contact with the skins during this 10-day process.

This wine is an excellent example of the unique South African grape varietal, Pinotage.
