Barao da Varzea Colheita Tinto DOC Douro Portugal
Bright aromas of wild blackberry and spice. The palate has ripe bramble fruit, supple tannins and juicy acidity. An approachable, warm and juicy red from Portugal's Douro region. Perfect with hearty bean and lentil casseroles, with or without sausages.The local grapes - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Tinta Roriz - grow in fine soils with some schist in vineyards near Cambres, in the western part of the Douro valley and south of the river. The climate here is warm and dry, and some of the vines are over 50 years old. After harvesting fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with a small portion (around 10%) ageing for 4 months in 2nd year French oak barrels, before the final blending and bottling.

A warm, generous, spicy nose, with macerated fruit compote characters. The palate has fresh red cherry flavours and fine, polished tannins - showing depth and good integration along with crunchy red fruit and a long supple finish.Drink with antipasti, or tortelloni and pecorino cheese. A large estate, with 180 hectares of immaculately maintained vineyards in Castelnuovo Berardenga, which lies adjacent to its sister property Villa la Pagliaia. The wines at both are made by Leonardo Bellacini, a master of the 'non interventionist' approach, giving classic expressions of high quality Sangiovese, restrained and complex and with great balance and depth. The secret lies in high quality grapes from exceptional vineyards, driven by an intensive research programme, in particular by selection of the best naturally occuring clones. Viré Clessé Domaine des Tourterelles France
Special parcel purchase - Available while stocks last. Would normally sell for £22.99 per bottle.A lovely clean mineral fruity nose of hawthorn and acacia. The palate has notes of lemongrass and white peach and it is round and supple with citrus hints. The wine has a very long full finish and is rich and well structured - a good example of Chardonnay from this area in Burgundy. Ideal with seafood gratins, poultry, shellfish and sautéed vegetables, veal, or steamed fish, poached and in white sauce, flowery cheeses, such as Camembert, and Goat cheeses. Philippe Mariller, brother-in-law, Michel Gaillard, and his son Valentin, freshly graduated with a diploma in winegrowing and winemaking from the Davayé wine school, are the three partners behind this new wine domaine. The domaine is situated in the Viré area of the Burgundy wine region and has 42 hectares of vines including the magnificent ‘Epinet’ climat which enjoys a south-eastern exposure and produces some very dry and mineral wines.
