Bodegas Juan Gil own over 500 hectares of vineyards, between 700 and 850 metres altitude, in the northwest of Jumilla: old bush vine Monastrell planted in chalky soils, and Shiraz grown in sandy soils on younger, trellised vines. Vinification is carried out at the winery in the heart of the Juan Gil vineyard area. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, temperature controlled, and the juice maintains contact with the skins during this 10-day process.

This is a smooth, full bodied wine with typical black fruit flavours with a hint of cherry.

The wine is lightly oaked and is made in the Swan Hill region in Australia.

Our Shiraz is sourced from ancient Victorian soils in order to achieve a wine with greater finesse, purity and structure as well as typical eucalypt flavours and saline finish associated with the area. Picked at night and crushed within an hour of picking before being sent to the fermentation tanks. The Shiraz grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled tanks maintained at 22 - 25ºC to avoid extracting any harsh tannins, with the fermentations pumped over to extract good colour. 20% of the final blend is barrel aged. The winemaker also added 5% Malbec at the end of the whole process - a sneaky technique that gives a mulberry fruit twist on the finish. 

Bright red in appearance with ripe raspberries and spice on the nose. The palate is juicy and plump with cherries and a gentle tannin finish.

Shiraz delivers deep plum, mulberry, and liquorice with concentrated depth and velvety tannins. Grenache adds lush raspberry, blueberry, and floral charm. White pepper notes from both varieties shine in the cooler vintage, offering intrigue. Mourvedre brings an elegant restraint, red fruits, dried herb hints, and fine chalky tannins. A symphony of flavours and textures.

The grapes used in this wine are mostly from very old bush vines from around the McLaren Vale region.

A rich full bodied wine made in Heathcote, South East Australia by De Bortoli. Deep purple in colour with a crimson hue and a bouquet of ripe blackberries and dark fruits complemented with mocha oak, hints of spicy pepper and liquorice. The palate is full and rich with plenty of ripe blackberry fruits and plums. Soft mouth filling flavours of mocha, spice and liquorice with a chocolaty finish.

Great with pizza and pasta. 

Beautiful perfume with blackberry, blueberry and middle eastern saffron spice on the nose. Dusty, earthy aromas give way to layers of aniseed and black olive. The palate beautifully follows the nose; mouth filling, generous and not overtly sweet. One that can be cellared for many years.

Small batches of grapes are gently crushed and then transferred to five tonne headed down open fermenters. Foot treading is undertaken two thirds of the way through fermentation. The wine is then basket pressed and a small amount of fine, fortifying brandy spirit is added, ending fermentation and reatining the sweet fruit richness of the style. The Vintage Fortified does not spend any time in wood prior to bottling.

Perfect with chocolate desserts of blue cheese.
